Alprazolam is used to treat anxiety disorders and panic
attacks. Alprazolam is in a class of medications called
benzodiazepines. It works by decreasing abnormal excitement
in the brain.
Alprazolam is used for the treatment of anxiety disorders
and panic attacks. Anxiety disorders are characterized by
unrealistic worry and apprehension, causing symptoms of
restlessness, aches, trembling, shortness of breath, smothering
sensation, palpitations, sweating, cold clammy hands, lightheadedness,
flushing, exaggerated startle responses, problems concentrating,
and insomnia. Panic attacks occur either unexpectedly or
in certain situations (i.e. driving), and can require higher
dosages of alprazolam.
For the management of anxiety disorders or the short-term
symptomatic relief of symptoms of excessive anxiety. Anxiety
or tension associated with the stress of everyday life usually
does not require treatment with an anxiolytic.
Alprazolam is indicated for the treatment of Generalized
Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and is also indicated for the management
of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia.
